"TAKATA RECALL" THROTTLE BODY SENSORS. MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING MY JEEP AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE JEEP SLOWED DOWN AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND SHE BARELY HAD ENOUGH TIME TO PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF A 2 LANE HIGHWAY. SHE BARELY HAD CELL PHONE SIGNAL TO CALL ME TO TELL ME SHE WAS STRANDED. SHE WAS IN A DEAD ZONE BY AIR FORCE BASE AND WAS GOING ABOUT 45MPH DURING HEAVY TRAFFIC HOUR. I'M GLAD SHE WAS UNDERSTOOD SOMETHING WAS WRONG AND QUICKLY PUT ON HAZARD LIGHTS, PULL OVER, AND SHUT OFF THE JEEP. SHE MENTIONED A LIGHTING BOLT LIGHT ON BUT DIDN'T FEEL THE JEEP WAS OVER HEATING. THE BEGINNING OF 2019 I HAD A RECALL FOR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER EFFICIENCY WHICH I DID GET FIXED AND ABOUT 4 MONTHS LATER (5SEP19) I PURCHASED A NEW THROTTLE BODY SENSOR AND THE LABOR WORK TURNED OUT TO $800. WHY WOULD THIS NOT BE PART OF THE WARRANTY OR RECALL OR IS THIS A CONTINUING ISSUE FOR OTHER JEEPS?

2013 JEEP COMPASS TRANSMISSION FILL TUBE BROKE OFF. IT APPEARS TO BE A MANUFACTURER DESIGN DEFECT AS IT IS NOT IN A PLACE WHERE IT COULD BE BUMPED OR BROKEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE. DISCOVERED THE ISSUE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET AND HEARD A NOISE. I HAD NOT HIT A BUMP OR RUN OVER ANYTHING. AN ONLINE SEARCH SHOWED THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED OFTEN IN DIFFERENT JEEP MODELS 2011 AND LATER. DEALER REFUSES TO FIX IT DUE TO IT NOT BEING SPECIFIED IN THE WARRANTY. THERE IS NO REASON FOR IT TO BE IN THE WARRANTY AS IT IS NOT A SERVICEABLE PART AND SHOULD NEVER NEED TO BE REPLACED. WE CONTACTED A COUPLE OF OTHER AUTO SHOPS AND WERE TOLD EACH TIME THEY CAN'T FIX IT BECAUSE THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE THAT PART IN THEIR SYSTEMS AND HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING.

UPON DOING A TOTAL FILL UP OUR JEEP, IT IS NOW STALLING AND I END UP WITH NO STEERING. THIS DOES IT AT LEAST 4/5 TIMES EACH TIME WE FILL FUEL TANK UP. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS UNABLE TO STEER AND ENTIRE ENGINE SHUTS DONE. THIS HAS DONE THIS WITH MY FAMILY IN THE CAR ABOUT A MINUTE AFTER GETTING FUEL, IF NOT LESS, AND TURNING ONTO A BUSY STREET WHERE JEEP STOPPED RUNNING. THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHEN THIS HAPPENED, BOTH TURNING ONTO BUSY STREET AND WHILST DRIVING ON BUSY STREET.

FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, I REFUELED MY VEHICLE ALL THE WAY TO FULL. I DROVE OFF AND GOT ON THE HIGHWAY ON-RAMP, WHILE I WAS ACCELERATING, THE CAR SHUT OFF, LOCKED UP THE STEERING AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF WHILE THE CAR WAS STILL IN DRIVE, AND THE KEY WAS STILL IN THE IGNITION. I QUICKLY STOPPED THE CAR, PUT IT IN PARK AND RESTARTED THE CAR, GOT ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE INCIDENT DIDN'T OCCUR AGAIN. A FEW WEEKS LATER, THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I REFUELED UNTIL THE TANK WAS FULL, DROVE ABOUT 100 YARDS, AND THE CAR SHUT OFF WHILE STILL IN DRIVE WITH KEYS IN IGNITION AND THE STEERING LOCKED UP WHILE I WAS GOING AROUND A SHARP TURN. I COULD HAVE DIED IF ANOTHER CAR CAME AROUND THE TURN AT THAT TIME. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN WITHIN 50 FEET. AFTER THAT, RESTARTING IT A SECOND TIME I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR WITHOUT IT HAPPENING AGAIN. SCARED TO REFILL THE CAR AGAIN. DURING EACH INCIDENT, NO WARNING LIGHTS OR INDICATION CAME UP ON THE DASHBOARD, THERE WAS NO WAY TO TELL WHAT WAS HAPPENING.

ENTERED BANK PARKING TO USE ATM MACHINE, AT THAT TIME WHEN STEPPED ON BRAKE TO STOP THE CAR, IT ACCELERATED LIKE SOMEONE WAS STEPPING ON GAS PEDAL. AT THAT TIME I TRIED TO STOP THE CAR BY SHIFTING INTO ANOTHER GEAR AND ALSO TRIED PULLING KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. AT THAT TIME KNEW I HAD TO GET CAR STOPPED WITHOUT HURTING ANYONE, SO THERE WAS A WOODED AREA BEHIND BANK, I RAN CAR INTO AREA THAT HAD HUGE ROCKS WHICH I RAN OVER AND THEREFORE HIT A TREE HEAD ON TO STOP MY CAR. THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING WOULD NOT SHUT OFF AND WOULD NOT STILL CHARGE GEARS OR CAR WOULD NOT SHUT OFF AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY (ANY OF THEM). WHILE STUCK IN TRAFFIC FOR 6 MINUTES (WINDOWS DOWN), THE CAR TEMPERATURE GAUGE WENT TO "H". ONCE I STARTED MOVING, THE GUAGE WENT TO HALF. WHEN I GOT HOME I CHECKED THE FLUID LEVELS AND THEY WERE FINE. ON THE WAY TO WORK THE NEXT DAY WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE CAR TEMP GUAGE WENT TO "H" AGAIN. I BROUGHT IT IN TO MY MECHANIC WHO SAID THAT THE FAN MOTOR WAS NOT SPINNING, CAUSING THE ENGINE TO OVERHEAT. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION HE NOTED THAT THE COMPUTER MODULE THAT OPERATES THE FAN WAS "FRIED" AND THE TRANSMISSION DIPSTICK SOMEHOW GOT LODGED IN THE FAN MOTOR. I REPLACED THE DIPSTICK AND COMPUTER MODULE ($1100) AND THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING AGAIN. OVERHEATING FOR NO REASON. WHEN I CALLED CHRYSLER/JEEP ABOUT MY EXTENDED WARRANTY, THEY SAID THAT ONLY THE ENGINE WAS COVERED, NOT THE COMPUTER MODULE THAT COULD SEIZE MY ENGINE. ACCORDING TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP, 70 COMPUTER MODULES WERE REPLACED IN A WEEK! WHEN DOES THIS BECOME A SAFETY HAZARD? IF I WAS DRIVING ON THE PARKWAY AND MY ENGINE SEIZED, I WOULD OF BEEN DEAD! *JS
