I HAD PULLED AWAY FROM BACK DOOR OF STORE AFTER DROPPING OFF A DONATION. I DROVE ABOUT 30 FEET WHEN MY PASSENGER SIDE REAR DOOR POPPED OPEN AND TAPPED A FENCE POST. EVERY AIRBAG WENT OFF IN THE VEHICLE, EXCEPT FOR THE STEERING WHEEL. I COULD NOT HAVE BEEN GOING MORE THAN 5MPH. IT SOUNDED LIKE AN EXPLOSION WENT OFF AND FRIGHTENED ME TERRIBLY AS I AM CLAUSTROPHOBIC AND WAS TRAPPED IN THE VEHICLE. THE INSURANCE AGENT, AND TOW SERVICE SAID THAT THAT DOOR HITTING A FENCE POST SHOULD NOT HAVE BLOWN EVERY AIRBAG IN THE VEHICLE. THEY BOTH ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THEY HAD NEVER SEEN THAT HAPPEN IN ALL THE ACCIDENTS THEY HAVE BEEN TO. I DO NOT FEEL LIKE MY INSURANCE COMPANY SHOULD HAVE TO COVER THIS AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY THE $1000 DEDUCTIBLE WHEN THERE IS CLEARLY PROBLEMS WITH ALL THE RECALLS ON AIRBAGS.

YOU CAN CONSTANTLY FEEL A BUMP,CLUNK & TRANSMISSION SLIP WHEN GOING FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. THIS IS DANGEROUS AS I WAS PULLING A SMALL BOAT AND IT CAME OFF THE HITCH HITTING THE TRUCKS TAILGATE AND CAUSING DAMAGE TO IT. THIS WILL HAPPEN SECONDS AFTER DRIVE IS ALREADY ENGAGED. AFTER 3RD TIME I TOOK TO DEALER THE MECHANIC GAVE ME A GMC MEMO THAT STATES THAT THIS IS NORMAL FOR THIS MODEL TRUCK TO DO THIS. MECHANIC STATED GM HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS ISSUE FOR YEARS. ARE YOU KIDDING ME ? SOUNDS LIKE POOR ENGINEERING. I WAS NEVER TOLD THIS WOULD HAPPEN PRE PURCHASE OR I WOULD OF NEVER BOUGHT THE TRUCK. HAVE HAD CONSTANT PROBLEMS WITH THIS TRUCK SINCE I BOUGHT IT. HAVE HAD THE SEAT BELT PILLAR COVER FALL OFF 3 TIMES DEALER SAYS THEY WILL CHANGE SEATBELT, WAITING OVER 2 MONTHS AND NO PARTS OR REPAIR. I HAVE A WARNING TO SERVICE BRAKE PAD SENSOR MONITOR. TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY SAY THEY CAN'T GET PARTS FOR IT YET BECAUSE GM IS ON STRIKE AND HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR PARTS AND REPAIR FOR OVER 2 MONTHS . HAVE HAD A STEERING WHEEL COLUMN WARNING ALSO. DEALER BLAMES EVERYTHING ON SOFTWARE ISSUE. MY DIAGNOSTIC REPORT EACH MONTH STATES TRUCK IS IN PERFECT ORDER EVEN THOUGH I HAVE HAD A WARNING LIGHT FOR OVER 2 MONTHS !!!!! NOW THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE SEATBELT PRETENSIONER THAT IT MIGHT CAUSE A FIRE ! WHAT A PIECE OF JUNK THIS TRUCK IS I TRIED TO SUPPORT THE AMERICAN ECONOMY BY BUYING AN AMERICAN TRUCK AND LOOK WHAT I GET ! I SHOULD OF BOUGHT A TOYOTA TUNDRA !!!!!!!

AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL AND SPUN AROUND A COUPLE OF TIMES. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE SPINE AND BASE OF HER SKULL, HER LEFT LEG WAS FRACTURED, AND HER PELVIS WAS SHIFTED AND NEEDED REALIGNMENT. THE CONTACT WAS TAKEN TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM AND WAS SEEKING MEDICAL ATTENTION FROM A CHIROPRACTOR SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE WAS DESTROYED, WHICH PREVENTED THE VEHICLE FROM BEING DRIVEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A BODY SHOP. GENE'S CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (LOCATED AT 3400 S CUSHMAN ST, FAIRBANKS, AK 99701, (907) 452-7117) WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. WHEN THE CONTACT PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ON JULY 1, 2019, SHE WAS INFORMED THAT IT HAD BEEN SERVICED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V407000 (AIR BAGS, SEAT BELTS). THE CONTACT'S SON WAS SEATED IN THE THIRD ROW SEATS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE IN A CAR SEAT. THE SEAT BELT THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO RESTRAIN THE CAR SEAT DID NOT REMAIN STEADY. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DASHBOARD AND STEERING WHEEL AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY; HOWEVER, THE CONSOLE, SIDE CURTAIN AND REAR AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INTERNAL BLEEDING, LACERATIONS, AND LIVER INJURIES. HER DAUGHTER WAS SEATED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND SUSTAINED A FRACTURED NOSE AND FACIAL MARKS FROM THE AIR BAG. THE CONTACT'S SON WAS SEATED IN THE CAR SEAT AND SUSTAINED LACERATIONS ON HIS FOREHEAD. EVERYONE WAS TRANSPORTED VIA AMBULANCE TO SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V673000 (SEAT BELTS). THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN IMPOUND LOT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,755.

THE TRUCK WAS IN A HEAD ON COLLISION WITH A DEER IN 2018 THAT DID NOT RESULT IN THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYING. THE TRUCK WAS TRAVELING ON A COUNTY HIGHWAY WHEN A DEER RAN OUT AND WAS STRUCK WITH THE FRONT END OF THE TRUCK. IN AUGUST 2019, THE TRUCK WAS TRAVELING ON A COUNTRY ROAD WHEN THE DRIVER STRUCK A GUARD RAIL HEAD ON. THIS COLLISION ALSO DID NOT DEPLOY THE AIR BAGS. ALSO, THE SEAT BELTS DID NOT DISENGAGE AFTER THE ACCIDENT (THEY STAYED IN THE LOCKED POSITION). AFTER TALKING WITH THE TOW TRUCK COMPANY AND THE AUTO BODY SHOP, THEY FELT THAT THE SEVERITY OF THE SECOND COLLISION AND THE LOCATION SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED THE AIR BAGS, BUT IT DID NOT. THE PICTURES AND POLICE REPORT ARE FOR THE SECOND COLLISION.

MY DEALER STATES THE PASSENGER AIR BAG SYSTEM IS ACTIVE FULL TIME HOWEVER IT IS ONLY MARGINALLY EFFECTIVE SHOULD THE PASSENGER FAIL TO SECURE THEIR SEAT BELT. ADDITIONALLY, THERE IS NO DASH INDICATOR SHOWING THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT BUCLKE/NO-BUCKLE STATUS AS SHOWN ON PAGE 86 OF THE 2018 SILVERADO OWNERS MANUAL WHICH DISCUSSES THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM AND AIRBAG STATUS INDICATOR WHICH IS NOT PRESENT IN THIS LINE OF VEHICLES. PAGE 145 OF THE 2018 SILVERADO OWNERS MANUAL STATES THERE "MAY" BE A REMINDER LIGHT NEAR THE AIRBAG STATUS INDICATOR WHICH IS NOT INSTALLED ON THIS LINE OF VEHICLES. VIEWING SIMILAR VEHICLES, THIS CONDITION IS PRESENT IN A MINIMUM OF MODEL YEARS 2017 THROUGH 2020 CHEVROLET AND GMC 2500/3500 HD CREW CAB VEHICLES. CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS CUSTOMER SERVICE ON 4/10/2018 & 4/24/2018 FILED GM CASE [XXX]. GM REP CALLED BACK 4/30/2018 AND THEIR SOLUTION WAS TO HAVE MY DEALERSHIP INSTALL AN AIRBAG ON/OFF SWITCH TO DISABLE THE AIRBAG. NOT A SUITABLE RESOLUTION TO THIS SAFETY ISSUE.
