IN 2008, I PURCHASE A NEW HONDA ACCORD V6 PAID WITH FINANCING $25,000. I PURCHASE A BRAND NEW VEHICLE TO NOT HAVE TO BE BOTHERED WITH SOMEONE ELSE PROBLEMS. WHEN MY CAR REACHED 100 THOUSAND MILES IN THE WINTER, I HEARD A LOUD KNOCKING SOUND UNDER THE HOOD AND I WAS LOOSING A LOT OF OIL. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER. MY ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND START BLINKING. THE DEALER PULLED THE DTC AND THE P0301 COLD WAS PRESENT. A SERVICE BULLETIN 13-078 AND CASE # 312-CV-01377-S1 TOLD ME THAT WOULD BE NO COST TO ME BECAUSE I WAS A CLASS MEMBER. THIS WAS FROM A CLASS ACTION FILING THAT 1.5 MILLION HONDA WERE DEFECTIVE BECAUSE OF A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. I WAS TOLD THIS WOULD FIX MY $25,000 INVESTMENT HONDA I PURCHASE AND PAID IN FULL. SINCE THEN I WENT TO THE COMMUNITY HONDA DEALERSHIP IN ORLAND PARK ILLINOIS AND ON APRIL 2019 THE P0301 CODE WAS PRESENT AGAIN SOMETHING NEW AND THE P0420 DTC. I PAID AGAIN FOR TUNE UP WHICH THE 1ST CYLINDER WAS FOULED OUT AGAIN THE THIRD TIME THIS YEAR. THE DIRECTOR OF THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT NAME BOB STATED FOR THIS REPAIR AGAIN WOULD COST ME $8,000 AND SMILED. I SAID I COULD NOT AFFORD THAT REPAIR AND BECAUSE NOW THAT THE FIRST REPAIR WHICH I WAS LEAD TO BELIEVE WAS GOING TO FIX THE EFFECT AND DID NOT. I WAS SOLD A LEMON AND I NEED HONDA TO REPURCHASE THIS VEHICLE AND GIVE ME A BRAND NEW VEHICLE SIMILAR TO THE ONE I PURCHASE FOR $25,000. THE COMMUNITY HONDA SERVICE DIRECTOR WOULD NOT WARRANTY MY TUNE UP BECAUSE HE SAID I NEED PISTON RINGS AGAIN. I THEN CONTACTED HONDA CORPORATION AND INFORMED THEM OF MY ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE I PURCHASE WITH WAS A DEFECT. TOOK TWO WEEKS FOR THE REGIONAL DIRECTOR PER DANA HONDA REP STATED NO MORE ASSISTANCE WILL BE GIVEN TO THIS DEFECTIVE VEHICLE WHICH IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASE IF I HAD KNOWN. I THEN HAD TO GO TO PEP BOYS TO AVOID BLOWING THE ENGINE AND CATCHING A FIRE FOR REPA

WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE, THE ENGINE CAUGHT ON FIRE AND THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT BURNED UP. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAD TO PUT OUT THE FIRE...ON A CITY STREET.

WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 55 MPH ON ROUTE I-287 IN MORRISTOWN, NJ, THE CAR BEGAN TO SHAKE BADLY AND THE ENGINE MADE A LOUD RUMBLING NOISE. I GOT THE CAR TO MY LOCAL SERVICE STATION IN MORRISTOWN, WHERE MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT ONE OF MY SPARK PLUGS HAD FAILED TO FUNCTION, HAVING BEEN BADLY OIL FOULED. HE REPLACED THE SPARK PLUG AND SAID THE COMPUTER SCANNER SHOWED CODE P0303 MISFIRE CYLINDER #3. HE ALSO NOTED THAT HONDA HAS A SERVICE CAMPAIGN FOR PISTON RING REPLACEMENT INITIATED IN 2013 TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO HONDA ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 13. THEY REPLACED 3 OF THE 4 SPARK PLUGS IN QUESTION (1 HAVING ALREADY BEEN REPLACED) AND UPDATED THE CAR'S COMPUTER PROGRAM, CALLING THAT STEP ONE IN SOLVING THE PROBLEM. THE HONDA SERVICE MANAGER EXPLAINED THAT HONDA'S PROTOCOL FOR THIS IS TO UPDATE THE SOFTWARE AND REPLACE SPARK PLUGS AND THEN WAIT TO SEE IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. (I LATER CONFIRMED THIS PROTOCOL BY PHONE WITH HONDA AMERICA.) LACKING THAT, HONDA WILL NOT REIMBURSE THE DEALERSHIP IF THEY DO THE REPAIR, BUT THIS FIX SEEMS TO WORK ABOUT HALF THE TIME. WHEN THE SERVICE CAMPAIGN WAS INITIATED IN 2013, I WAS NOT NOTIFIED. CLEARLY, HONDA RECOGNIZED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM OF OIL LEAKING INTO THE CYLINDERS BUT DID NOT ISSUE A RECALL, AS I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD HAVE. IN MY CASE, MY ENGINE FAILED WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT HIGH SPEED ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING I WOULD LIKE TO HAPPEN AGAIN, BUT MY LOCAL MECHANIC SAYS IT DEFINITELY WILL HAPPEN AGAIN, BECAUSE HONDA DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. REPLACING SPARK PLUGS IS NO MORE THAN A BAND AID. I'M LEFT WITH A SERIOUS AND EXPENSIVE PROBLEM, AND HONDA'S INTENTION IS TO SKIRT THE REAL ISSUE BY RISKING MY SAFETY IN ORDER TO AVOID ACCOUNTABILITY.

YELLOW SAC SPIDER BLOCKING VENTING OF FUEL TANK YELLOW SAC SPIDER BUILT NEST IN EVAP SYSTEM CAUSING BLOCKAGE AND TRIGGERING A DTC CODE P2422 (EVAP CANNISTER VENT SHUT VALVE CLOSE MALFUNCTION). THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN AN ISSUE FOR 2008 AND 2009 HONDA ACCORDS AND A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 08-087 HAD BEEN ISSUED TO DEALERS. OTHER CAR MANUFACTURERS, NOTABLY MAZDA AND TOYOTA, ISSUED RECALLS TO DEAL WITH YELLOW SAC SPIDER PROBLEMS. HONDA TREATED IT AS A WARRANTY ISSUE AND MIGHT MAKE A PARTIAL PAYMENT FOR OUT OF WARRANTY CLAIMS. THE FIX IS TO INSTALL A SPRING IN THE VALVE TO PREVENT SPIDER NESTS. A BLOCKED VENT LINE CAN CAUSE EXCESSIVE PRESSURE IN THE GAS TANK LEADING TO LEAKAGES OR WORSE. UNLESS A SPRING IS INSTALLED, ANY HONDA ACCORD MODEL YEARS 2008 AND 2009 CAN HAVE THIS PROBLEM. YELLOW SAC SPIDERS ARE FOUND IN 49 STATES, CANADA AND MEXICO.

ACCELERATING FROM A STOP SIGN AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, VEHICLE BEGAN TO IDLE ROUGH AND SHUDDER. LIMPED TO AN AUTO PARTS STORE AND DIAGNOSIS WAS CYLINDER #2 MISFIRE. I WAS RETURNING HOME FROM VACATION AND CONTACTED DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT WHERE CAR WAS PURCHASED FROM. WAS INFORMED THAT HONDA ISSUED A TSB FOR FOULED PLUGS. DROVE 290 MILES HOME AS ALL DEALERSHIPS WERE CLOSED. *JS
