THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND IT STALLED AGAIN SIX FEET AWAY. WHEN THE VEHICLE FINALLY RESTARTED, IT WAS DRIVEN WITH HESITATION TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE FOLLOWING DAY, THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO COGGIN NISSAN (10600 ATLANTIC BLVD, JACKSONVILLE, FL 32225) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000.

THIS VEHICLE HAD AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. THE ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WOULD RANDOMLY SHUT DOWN, KILLING ALL GAUGES, LIGHTING, POWER STEERING AND ETC. MULTIPLE VISITS TO THE DEALERSHIP BROUGHT "UNABLE TO DUPLICATE" RESPONSES AND NO ATTEMPT TO REPAIR. NISSAN DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE STATED PROBLEM COULD BE DISPLAYED AT THE DEALERSHIP (NOTE THAT A CAR CANNOT DRIVE WITHOUT A WORKING ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). WHEN VEHICLES ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SHUT DOWN THE FINAL TIME A FIRE WAS IGNITED UNDER THE HOOD. THE CAR WAS SOON ENGULFED IN FLAMES. IT IS A TOTAL LOSS. JANUARY 2ND I WAS ASKED TO JUMPSTART A VEHICLE IN MY DRIVEWAY. APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES LATER MY NISSAN VERSA, WITH LESS THAN 32000 MILES, CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE CABLES WERE HOOKED UP CORRECTLY. PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT AND AT LEAST THREE TIMES, I HAD COMPLAINED OF A BURNING SMELL AFTER HIGHWAY DRIVING. I WAS TOLD BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY, I SHOULD BRING IT TO A NISSAN DEALER WHERE A LICENSED NISSAN MECHANIC COULD DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE. WHEN THE DEALER NEGLECTED TO DO SO, NISSAN NORTH AMERICA WAS CALLED IN TO DO AN INSPECTION. THEY COMPLETED THEIR INSPECTION AND WOULD NOT COVER THE EXPENSE OR RELEASE THE REPORT TO ME OR THE NISSAN DEALER. THEY OPTED TO KEEP THE INFORMATION UNDERCOVER. I AM ASSUMING IT IS WAS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE OR SOME TYPE OF LEAK JUDGING BY THE 250,000 NISSAN VEHICLES RECALLED IN 2012. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 NISSAN VERSA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ENTER THE VEHICLE, THE POWER LOCKS AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST AND THE BRAKES FAILED WITHOUT WARNING, CAUSING HER TO CRASH INTO A TELEPHONE POLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED HEAD TRAUMA AND BURNS TO THE HANDS. THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED BACK INJURIES, A HEMATOMA AND BRUISING TO THE LEFT LEG. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS MOVED TO THE SHOULDER THEN EXITED AT WHICH TIME THE ENTIRE VEHICLE BECAME ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FIRE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO ELECTRICAL FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT SHOP FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT (WITH A HERTZ RENTAL CAR IN KAUAI HAWAII) AND SWITCHING BETWEEN HIGH BEAM AND LOW BEAM AND TRAVELING AT 40 MPH ALL THE HEADLIGHTS TURNED OFF. THE STALK MOUNTED SWITCH CONTROLS BOTH HEADLIGHT ON/OFF (ROTARY MOTION) AND HIGH BEAM-LOW BEAM WITH BACK AND FORTH STALK MOTION. AFTER DRIVING FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AND SUCCESSFULLY USING THE HIGH-BEAM LOW BEAM SELECTOR OFTEN, ON THE NEXT CHANGE BETWEEN HIGH AND LOW BEAM THE ROTARY MOTION OF THE KNOB ALSO ENGAGED AND TURNED THE HEADLIGHTS OFF. I HAVE SIMILAR CONTROLS ON MY CAR AT HOME AND THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED. THE ROTARY MOTION OF THE ON / OFF KNOB REQUIRES JUST A VERY LIGHT TWIST AND THE IN-OUT MOTION NEEDED TO CHANGE BETWEEN HIGH AND LOW BEAM ALSO TWISTED THE OFF SWITCH. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO BRING THE CAR TO A HALT WITH THE BRAKES AND STAY ON THE ROAD. IT WAS VERY SCARY AND VERY FRIGHTENING TO BRAKE FROM 40 MPH IN THE PITCH DARK NOT KNOWING IF THE NEXT INSTANT WAS TO BRING A CRASH. MY WIFE WAS ALSO VERY SHOOK UP. AFTER I STOPPED I FIGURED OUT WHAT HAPPENED. IT WAS PITCH BLACK OUTSIDE WITH NO STREET LIGHTS. THIS CAN KILL SOMEONE!! THE FLUTED SURFACE OF THE ON/OFF KNOB EXACERBATES THE PROBLEM AND MAKES IT EASIER FOR A LIGHT BRUSH WITH A FINGER TIP TO TURN THE KNOB AND HEADLIGHTS OFF. THE VIN I COPIED FROM THE LIHUE AIRPORT HERTZ RECEIPT FOR THE RENTAL. LICENSE NUMBER WAS [XXX], HAWAII .IT WAS A RED COLOR CAR WITH AUTOMATIC SHIFT.
