THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION COOLER THAT IS INTERNAL TO THE RADIATOR LEAKED COOLANT INTO THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CAUSING EXCESSIVE FRICTION DESTROYING IT. NISSAN KNEW OF THE PROBLEM YET FAILED TO WARN OWNERS THAT THEY COULD AVOID A $6000 REPAIR BY REPLACING THE KNOW DEFECTIVE RADIATOR FOR LESS THAN $1000. NISSAN OFFERED A PRORATED WARRANTY EXTENSION OF UP TO 10 YRS/90,000 MILES (MINE IS A 2007 WITH 88934 SO NOT COVERED) BUT ONLY COVERING A SMALL PORTION OF THE COST TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. NISSAN SHOULD BE PUNISHED FOR FAILING TO WARN OWNERS THEY COULD HAVE AVOIDED THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE. A MANUFACTURE SHOULD HAVE A DUTY TO WARN CONSUMERS IN THIS CASE. THIS COULD CAUSE A SAFETY ISSUE IF THE FAILURE OCCURRED IN A CRITICAL SITUATION. IN MY CASE THE TRANSMISSION FAILED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING ON STATE HIGHWAY 460 NEAR NARROWS, VIRGINIA.

MY NISSAN DEALER TOLD ME TODAY THAT THE TIMING CHAIN ON THE 4.0L V6 ENGINE IN MY TRUCK REQUIRES REPLACEMENT. THIS TRUCK HAS LESS THAN 60,000 MILES ON IT AND THE DEALER CHARGES $2,140 FOR THE WORK. TIMING CHAINS ARE NORMALLY EXPECTED TO LAST FOR THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. FAILURE OF THE TIMING CHAIN WOULD DESTROY THE ENGINE AND, IF IT OCCURRED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. NISSAN HAS KNOWN ABOUT A DEFECTIVE TIMING CHAIN PROBLEM ON THIS AND RELATED ENGINES SINCE AT LEAST 2004, YET THEY CONTINUED TO USE THOSE DEFECTIVE TIMING CHAINS UNTIL APPROXIMATELY 2010. NISSAN SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL AND REPLACE THE CHAINS UNDER WARRANTY.

ENTERING 4 LANE HIGHWAY WITH 70 MPH TRAFFIC. KICKED FRONTIER INTO PASSING GEAR TO ENTER ONGOING TRAFFIC. FRONTIER STALLED AND SLOWED INSTEAD OF INCREASING SPEED. TRANSMISSION SLIPPAGE AND JERKING CAUSED MOTOR TO INCREASE RPMS. I HAD TO MOVE MY TRUCK OVER TO RIGHT OF PAVED LANE AND ONTO PULLOFF AREA IN ORDER TO PREVENT ACCIDENT. I WAS TOLD AT THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP THAT I HAD TRANSMISSION DAMAGE DUE TO RADIATOR FLUID LEAKING INTO TRANSMISSION . IT COST ME $2500 TO REPAIR A PROBLEM THAT COULD HAVE COST LIVES. I UNDERSTAND THIS WAS A PROBLEM THAT WAS NOT RECALLED BY NISSAN.

THE TRANSMISSION ON MY TRUCK SUDDENLY WENT OUT WITH NO WARNING DURING MY MORNING COMMUTE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ON THE 202 LOOP IN PHOENIX. SHIFTING TO A DIFFERENT GEAR HAD THE SAME EFFECT AS STEPPING ON THE GAS, WHICH WAS THAT THE ENGINE REVVED WITH NO INCREASE OR DECREASE IN SPEED. I HAD TO COAST ACROSS 4 LANES OF FAST MOVING TRAFFIC. IT WAS AN INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I AM TOLD BY THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP THAT TRANSMISSION FLUID MIXED WITH COOLANT AND THAT IT WAS A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. I HAVE RECEIVED NO NOTICES OF ANY KIND FROM NISSAN AND WAS SHOCKED TO LEARN THAT THIS IS A KNOWN, COMMONLY OCCURRING DEFECT AND THAT THE DEFECT MANIFESTS INSTANTANEOUSLY AND WITHOUT WARNING MOST OF THE TIME. NISSAN SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE DEFECTIVE SYSTEM AND FOR NOT NOTIFYING ME THAT I SHOULD HAVE THE DEALER FIX IT BEFORE THEY PUT MY LIFE AND PROPERTY AND THAT OF EVERY PERSON AROUND ME AT RISK. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A BACK ROAD. WHILE TRAVELING UP A SLIGHT HILL THE TRUCK SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR. WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL THE ENGINE WOULD REV BUT IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED OFF THE TRUCK. WHEN I RESTARTED AND PUT IT IN DRIVE I STARTED ROLLING BACKWARDS. I ENDED UP GETTING TOWED TO MY MECHANIC. IF THIS WAS THE ORIGINAL TRANSMISSION I COULD UNDERSTAND THAT AT 155K MILES IT COULD FAIL, HOWEVER THIS TRUCK HAS NOW GONE THROUGH THE FACTORY TRANSMISSION AS WELL AS A FACTORY REFURBISHED TRANSMISSION ALL WITHIN 7 YEARS. I READ ONLINE ABOUT MANY FRONTIER OWNERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AS I HAVE. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK TO MY MECHANIC WHO INFORMED ME THAT THE RADIATOR FAILS WHICH CAUSES THE TRANSMISSION TO FAIL. I FEEL LUCKY THAT I WAS ON A BACK ROAD BECAUSE THE FAILURE HAPPENED QUICKLY, HAD I BEEN ON A HIGHWAY WITH MODERATE TRAFFIC I COULD EASILY BEEN STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. *JS

ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO I STARTED TO FEEL AS IF THE TRUCK WAS NOT SHIFTING CORRECTLY, SOON AFTER THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I BROUGHT IT RIGHT IN TO OUR REGULAR SERVICE STATION. A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK REVEALED CODE P0717 FOR A TURBINE REVOLUTION SENSOR AND I WAS TOLD TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. THE NISSAN DEALER DID THEIR OWN DIAGNOSTIC (NO TEST DRIVE) AND FOUND IT TO BE A BAD VALUE BODY, AS WELL AS BAD TIMING CHAIN AND TENSIONERS, AND REPLACEMENT OF ALL 6 COIL PACKS, ALONG WITH A FEW OTHER GENERAL FINDINGS GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE OF NEARLY 5 THOUSAND DOLLARS. THE 2 DIAGNOSTIC CHECKS HAVE COST ME CLOSE TO $250. I WAS IN SHOCK AND DID NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS UP FRONT, SO I TOOK THE TRUCK TO 2 OTHER SERVICE STATIONS, ONE BEING AAMCO WHO SPECIALIZES IN TRANSMISSIONS. NONE OF THE 3 OTHER STATIONS FOUND ANY OTHER ISSUES ASIDE FROM THE TRANSMISSION. AAMCO AFTER A TEST DRIVE AND DIAGNOSTIC CHECK DETERMINED THERE WAS AN ISSUE BUT WOULD NEED TO REMOVE THE TRANSMISSION TO DETERMINE THE EXTENT OF THE PROBLEM. AAMCO FOUND THERE TO BE WATER BEING PUMPED INTO THE TRANSMISSION, AND ALSO CLAIMED IT WAS THE 3 PROBLEM OF THIS TYPE THEY HAD SEEN SO FAR THIS MONTH. APPARENTLY THE RADIATOR LEAKS WATER INTO THE TRANSMISSION. THE FIX IS A REBUILT TRANSMISSION AND SEPARATE COOLER FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO ASSURE THIS WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN. AT A COST OF 3200 TO ME! THIS PARTICULAR AAMCO IS ACROSS FROM THE DEALER AND CLAIMS THAT HAVE DONE WORK FOR THE DEALERSHIP TO FIX THE SAME PROBLEM! I ALSO RECEIVED A LETTER BACK IN OCT. /NOV. INDICATING A POSSIBLE RADIATOR PROBLEM AND AN OFFER OF AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. NOTHING WAS MENTIONED OF THE DAMAGE THAT COULD OCCUR TO THE TRANSMISSION! I FEEL CHEATED, AND IN MY RESEARCH HAVE FOUND THIS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. NISSAN SHOULD STAND BY THEIR PRODUCT AND DO THE RIGHT THING BY THEIR CUSTOMERS! *TR
