FIRST THE TRANSMISSION FAILED RIGHT AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE 2 YEARS AGO. I HAD TO BUY A NEW TRANSMISSION THAT WASN'T CHEAP AROUND $3,500. THEN THE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS STARTED WITH THE RIGHT SIDE LAST YEAR JUST HAD A TON OF PLAY IN IT MY MECHANIC FOUND IT WHEN LIFTING UP MY TRUCK FOR A TIRE ROTATION. THEN THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL BEARING JUST STARTED MAKING A LOAD ROARING NOISE BUT HAD NO PLAY IN IT AT ALL THAT I COULD FEEL WHEN CHECKING IT OUT. BOTH COST AROUND $250 A WHEEL TO REPLACE. NOW MY 5.3 LITER ENGINE IS HAVING A KNOCKING SOUND WHEN AT A STOP AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 30 MINUTES OR WHEN THE ENGINE IS HOT. ALSO I AM HEARING A SLIGHT TICKING SOUND FROM THE ENGINE COLD OR HOT. I HAVE 4 SMALL KIDS SO I NEED A VERY RELIABLE LARGE VEHICLE AND THIS IS SUBURBAN IS DRIVING ME AND MY WIFE CRAZY HAVING TO POOR MONEY IN THIS VEHICLE EVERY YEAR. I AM THE SOIL PROVIDER FOR MY FAMILY I CANT AFFORD PUTTING ALL MY MONEY INTO A VEHICLE LIKE THIS.

DRIVING SOUTH ON INTERSTATE 15 IN #1 LANE SOUTH OF CEDAR CITY, UTAH. THE TRUCK SUDDENLY SHOOK VIOLENTLY AND WITHIN SECONDS THERE WAS A LOUD EXPLOSION WITH DEBRIS FLY A HEAD OF ME. I FOUGHT TO CONTROL MY VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN TO PULL OFF ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD WITH HITTING ANY ONE. THE TIRE THAT EXPLODED WAS ON LEFT FRONT. THE ENTIRE TREAD CAME OFF OF THE TIRE AND TIRE SEPARATED WHERE THE TIRE WAS SEAMED TOGETHER DURING MANUFACTURE. THERE WAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE BENT FRONT BUMPER, TORE THE WHEEL WELL LINER, DENTED THE FRONT DOOR IN SEVERAL PLACES AND DENTED ROCKER PANEL UNDER THE FRONT DOOR. THE TIRE WAS A BF GOODRICH ALL TERRAIN T/A KO, LT285R70/17 LOAD RANGE E. THE TIRE HAD A 50,000 MILE WARRANTY BUT HAD JUST A LITTLE 20,000 MILES WITH 10/32 TREAD ON ALL TIRES WHICH MEANS THERE WAS 60% TREAD LIFE LEFT IN THE TIRES. WHEN I WAS ALMOST HOME, I NOTICE A TYPE OF VIBRATION LIKE A TIRE WAS UNBALANCE OR OUT OF ROUND. I CHECK THE OTHER THREE TIRES AND DISCOVERED THE RIGHT REAR TIRE HAD LARGE BULGE ACROSS THE TREAD WHICH INDICATES THAT ANOTHER TIRE WAS FAILING. TOOK THE TIRES TO THE DEALER AND TOLD ME THAT ME THESE FAILURES WERE DO TO A MANUFACTURER/WORKMANSHIP DEFECT. MICHELIN WHICH MAKES THE BF GOODRICH TIRES WANTS ME TO PAY FOR A NEW SET OF TIRES AND DAMAGE TO MY TRUCK AND VERBALLY THEY TELL ME THEY MAY REIMBURSE ME BUT WILL NOT PUT THAT IN WRITING. I DO NOT TRUST THEM AND WILL NEVER BUY BF GOODRICH OR MICHELIN TIRES AGAIN. MICHELIN HAS A RECALL ON THIS LINE OF TIRES IN VARIOUS SIZES BUT NOT IN MY SIZE. DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY MY SIZE WAS NOT RECALLED BECAUSE ALL SIZES IN THE ALL TERRAIN LINE ARE MADE WITH THE SAME MATERIALS AND MANUFACTURING PROCESS THE SAME FOR ALL SIZES. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THE SIZE OF THE TIRE.

YOU CAN NOT LOWER THE SPARE TIRE,UNDER THE VEHICLE,THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM AND I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON WITH THIS PROBLEM, THE PART THAT HOLDS THE SPARE TIRE HAS A SPRING LOADED LOCK ON IT THAT CANNOT RELEASE BECAUSE OF A BAD DESIGN OFF IT,THEIR IS A VIDEO ON YOUTUBE ABOUT IT (GOOD INFORMATION ABOUT IT) YOU NEED TO CUT THE TIRE DOWN WITH A CUTTING TORCH, THIS IS A BAD IDEA AROUND A GAS TANK, I CAN NOT EXPRESS HOW MAD I AM RIGHT NOW BECAUSE I CAN'T EVEN THINK OF THAT MANY CUSS WORDS,AND IT IS GOING INTO HEART A TACK MODE, I WOULD LOVE TO MEET THE ENGINEER THAT DESIGNED THIS, AND HAVE HIM CHANGE THE TIRE, FIRST YOU NEED A TOW TRUCK THEN A SHOP WITH A LIFT THEN TWO MECHANICS IF NOT THREE AND YOU THEN NEED A TRANSMISSION JACK TO PUT UPWARD PRESSURE ON THE TIRE TO RELEASE THE TENSION OF THE LOCKING DEVICE THAT HOLDS THE TIRE, AFTER YOU LET THE AIR OUT OF THE TIRE, I CAN OVERHAUL THE ENGINE AND THE TRANSMISSION AND ANYTHING ELSE THAT NEED TO BE DONE TO THIS OR ANY OTHER CAR,BUT THIS IS A BIG BIG MISTAKE IN DESIGN,CAN YOU IMAGINE A LADY HAVING TO CHANGE A TIRE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD!!! IF A MECHANIC (MALE OR FEMALE) CANT DO IT,HOW CAN THE AVERAGE CONSUMER, DO IT? TOOK IT TO A FIRESTONE SHOP TO INSPECT AND CORRECT PROBLEM. MECHANIC FOUND THAT THE RIGHT FRONT BEARING WAS FALLING APART AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE TIRES WERE READY TO BE REPLACED THEY HAD 60,000 MILES ON THEM WITH A LITTLE CUPPING BUT FAIRLY EVEN WEAR. WITHOUT STOPPING TO CHECK THE TIRES THE BEARING MOST LIKELY WOULD HAVE FAILED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, WHICH PROBABLY WOULD HAVE PREVENTED ME FROM FILING THIS REPORT. *TR

THEY SAID THAT THEY HAVE HAD SEVERAL CHEVY SILVERADOS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM WITH EVEN LESS MILEAGE ON. CALLED CHEVY THEY SAID THEY HAVE ALSO HAD SEVERAL COMPLAINTS BUT THERE IS NO RECALL OR HELP WITH FIXING THE PROBLEM. IT COST APROX 900.00. TO FIX @ SCHAWBS. *TR

WE WERE DRIVING BACK FROM THE AIRPORT, 60 MILES FROM OUR HOME. BEFORE WE LEFT THE AIRPORT AREA WE HEARD A NOISE. AS WE ARE HEADED HOME APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES DOWN THE ROAD THE STABILITY NOTIFICATION AND THE ABS LIGHTS COME ON. FIRST TIME THEY HAD COME ON. EVERY NOW AND THEN WE HEAR A NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL. THE NOTIFICATION AND LIGHTS CUT OFF AND ON ALL THE WAY TO OUR DESTINATION. APPROXIMATELY 6 MILES FROM OUR HOME, WE HEAR A NOISE AS IF SOMETHING CAME OFF BUT YET THE SUBURBAN WAS DRIVING OKAY FOR THE EXCEPTION OF NOISE AND GRINDING. WE DECIDED TO KEEP DRIVING AS WE ARE IN A HORRIFIC CONSTRUCTION ZONE. THE NEXT DAY I CALL FOR AN APPT FOR INSPECTION AT A PRIVATE WHEEL AND BRAKE SHOP FOR AN ESTIMATE. THEY SAID I HAD EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLIES AND THE FRONT WHEEL TIRE WAS JUST ABOUT TO FALL OFF. THEY SAID THEY WERE EVEN APPREHENSIVE ABOUT MAKING IT FROM THE OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING, INSIDE. I CALL THE DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID IT THERE WAS NOT A RECALL ON THE HUB ASSEMBLIES AND IT WOULD COST APP $560 TO $600 PER WHEEL FOR REPAIR. I COULD NOT AFFORD THIS SO I TOOK IT TO REPAIR AT THE WHEEL SHOP. MY VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY AT THE TIME 54,000 MILES. I DO HAVE THE OLD PARTS FOR INSPECTION. *TR
